What's to say about a Chromebook like the Samsung Series 5, whose hardware is almost embarrassed to exist? In December, Google unveiled the Cr-48, the first of what Google then called "Chrome OS netbooks," and seeded developers, the media, analysts, and corporations with the somewhat clunky prototype hardware in a beta program designed to work out the kinks.Fast forward to 2011, and Google I/O. Acer and Samsung, both originally tapped as launch partners, revealed their first "Chromebooks" this week—or, to be specific, Google did it for them.Samsung unveiled its Chromebook Series 5 at an event in San Francisco on Wednesday night. It will be available in black and white, and with either a Wi-Fi only option or Wi-Fi plus 3G. It features a 12.1-inch...

Google will hold back its Android 3.0 "Honeycomb" to smaller phone manufacturers for an undisclosed period of time, Google said Thursday.Google said that Honeycomb was designed for tablets, not phones, and that it had more work to do before Honeycomb was released in an open-source format, a Google spokesman said in an email. The delay will probably be on the order of several months, Google told BusinessWeek."Android 3.0, Honeycomb, was designed from the ground up for devices with larger screen sizes and improves on Android favorites such as widgets, multi-tasking, browsing, notifications and customization," Google said in an email to PCMag.com. "While we're excited to offer these...

On Thursday, Google launched the Google Body Browser, said to be a Google Earth-like experience for the human body. Unfortunately, PCMag.com could not get the new application to work, a problem shared by at least one other commenter on the page. Google published the Body Browser as an in-browser tool."Body Browser is a detailed 3D model of the human body," Google said in an introduction. "You can peel back anatomical layers, zoom in, and navigate to parts that interest you. Click to identify anatomy, or search for muscles, organs, bones and more."The Body Browser requires a browser, such as the beta version of Chrome, with WebGL. WebGL, a 3D graphics API that can be run directly within the browser, was implemented in the Chrome beta that was launched earlier...
